Garden Prep Continues

The new greenhouse still isn’t up yet; the ground needs to be prepped and there’s other work to do in the meantime.

The remnants of the winter garden are still doing well …

… until some outside force comes along and rips those poor plants out of their comfortable resting place, scrapes their skins off, and devours them, sometimes before they’ve passed on from such harsh treatment.

But they taste good that way.

The winter shelter has been removed; the weather’s getting nicer and maybe, just maybe, winter’s over.

Early spring this year but the snowpack up in the high hills is good. That means water.

Time to get the new plants started. I’m going to use the old garden as well as the greenhouse this year.

Milk cartons will help protect the seedlings; temperatures still fall a bit below freezing.

In the meantime, the daffodils brighten inside the house.

    Several planter boxes were used in last summer’s garden. After harvesting, the greens were left in place and covered with plastic sheeting to make it through the winter as best they could. Seems they survived … although this past winter was not all that severe. About ½ the main bed was given the hoop/plastic treatment….
